Dr. Holms opened on 27 November 1909, the same day H.M. King Haakon VII inaugurated the Bergen Line railway. The hotel was originally built as a sanatorium by physician Ingebrikt Chr. Lund Holm, intended to attract city dwellers from Kristiania and Bergen to the fresh mountain air.

Since then, the hotel has had several owners and has endured both war and other challenges. In 2016, Dr. Holms was expanded with a new building adjacent to the original hotel. The extension added 24 new apartments as well as eight new suites.

Norco Hospitality was responsible for concept development, design, production, and delivery of all fixed interiors, loose furniture, and lighting for all rooms in the extended section, as well as the restaurant in this project.
